Probiotics rewards vs risk, you decide

Probiotics: Weighing the Rewards vs. Risks – Are They Truly Beneficial? The decision is yours. In this explanation, we explore the benefits of probiotics, emphasizing their role in digestion, nutrient absorption, and tackling the root causes of health concerns.

Benefits of Taking Probiotics

Probiotics are beneficial bacteria that support gut health, which is foundational to overall wellness. When your gut microbiome is balanced, your body can function optimally. Though more probiotic benefits can be found, Here’s my favorite 8 ways of how probiotics can contribute to better health:

 1. Improved Nutrient Absorption:

  •  • Probiotics help break down food into nutrients that your body can absorb.

  •  • They assist in synthesizing essential vitamins like B12, folate, and biotin, which are critical for energy and cellular repair.

 2. Enhanced Digestion:

  •  • Probiotics reduce bloating, gas, and indigestion by improving the breakdown of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats.

  •  • They help prevent constipation and diarrhea by regulating bowel movements.

 3. Strengthened Immune System:

  •  • About 70% of your immune system resides in your gut. Probiotics strengthen gut-associated lymphoid tissue (GALT), which defends your body against pathogens.

  •  • They crowd out harmful bacteria and yeast, creating a balanced microbiome that supports immunity.

 4. Reduction in Inflammation:

  •  • Probiotics help reduce gut inflammation, which is often the root cause of many chronic conditions, including autoimmune disorders.

  •  • They can improve conditions like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and leaky gut syndrome.

 5. Support for Mental Health:

  •  • The gut-brain axis links gut health to mental health. Probiotics can increase serotonin production, helping to reduce symptoms of anxiety, depression, and brain fog.

 6. Detoxification:

  •  • Probiotics assist in breaking down toxins, heavy metals, and harmful chemicals, preventing them from being absorbed into the bloodstream.

 7. Weight Management:

  •  • Certain probiotic strains help regulate appetite and metabolism, supporting healthy weight management.

 8. Better Skin Health:

  •  • By reducing gut-related inflammation, probiotics can improve skin conditions like eczema, acne, and rosacea.

Why Probiotics Are Essential in Modern Times

Today’s lifestyle—poor diet, antibiotics, and environmental toxins—disrupts the natural balance of gut flora. Supplementing with high-quality probiotics is crucial for rebuilding and maintaining this balance.

Probiotic Sources

 1. Natural Foods: Fermented foods like sauerkraut, kimchi, yogurt (dairy-free options preferred), and kombucha.

 2. Supplements: Choose a broad-spectrum, high-quality probiotic with strains like Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium.

One of my mentors from "Powered By Life Mr. Rubin" (who is mostly responsible for this shared info), we both agree that one of our favorite products named "Root Beer Belly" is an excellent tasting and effective daily probiotic that tastes exactly like Root Beer. Antioxidant Nutrients

Better than my morning Cup of Joe

Antioxidants are special natural nutrients that help protect our cells by neutralizing harmful "free radicals" in our bodies. Typically, electrons are found in pairs, but when molecules break apart, they create single, overactive, and unstable molecules known as free radicals. Since "free radicals" are molecules with an unpaired electron, nutrients like antioxidants neutralize them by donating some of their own electrons. This electron donation process acts as a natural "off" switch for the free radicals, preventing them from causing cellular damage and inflammation.

Sources of antioxidants

The body produces certain antioxidants, yet many plant foods such as fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, herbs, spices, and whole food nutritional supplements are rich in these substances. Dietary antioxidants include vitamins A, C, and E, alongside compounds like beta-carotene and lycopene. Consuming a diet abundant in antioxidants may help diminish the risk of oxidative stress and damage caused by free radicals.

Measurements of antioxidants

Always try to find out the "ORAC Score" of the food source or nutritional supplement that you're consuming if you can. "ORAC" stands for Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity and is a measure of a food's antioxidant activity. ORAC measures how well a food protects cells from damage caused by free radicals. Typically, the higher the ORAC score, the greater the antioxidant activity of the food or supplement source.

I always advocate for people to consume their fruits and vegetables. However, it's important to understand that if these foods don't come from a quality soil source, the plants, fruits, and vegetables may be deficient in the minerals and other nutrients necessary to support a robust and accurate ORAC score. For more information on soil nutrient deficiencies, visit https://90hive.com/post/minerals-are-essential Consulting with a good Naturopathic (ND) doctor, Osteopathic (DO) doctor, or a holistic health coach can help you find the ORAC score that best suits you.

If you're searching for a nutritional supplement packed with beneficial nutrients and a high ORAC score (potentially the highest in the industry), watch the video below.

Arthritis Does NOT Discriminate

Arthritis is commonly seen as a condition that affects aging or elderly adults. Unfortunately, this painful, and often debilitating disease does not discriminate on the age of its victims. There are many faces of arthritis and those suffering can be as young as 2yrs old. The month of July is a time used to raise awareness to Juvenile Arthritis, a musculoskeletal disorder which consists of more than 100 autoimmune and inflammatory conditions that develops in children ages 16 years and younger.

You may not know this, but juvenile arthritis is one of the most common childhood diseases in the United States affecting 294,000 children under the age of 18.1 Juvenile arthritis has many forms which can be damaging to children’s joints, bones, muscles, cartilage and many other connective tissues that can at times leave them debilitated. Juvenile arthritis is classified under three different categories: juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (JRA), juvenile chronic arthritis (JCA), juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA). The most common form in is JIA; which begins before the age of 16yrs old.

Common Symptoms of Juvenile Arthritis include:

  • Pain, swelling, tenderness and stiffness of joints, causing limited range of motion
  • Joint contracture, which results from holding a painful a flexed position for an extended period
  • Damage to joint cartilage and bones that can lead to joint deformity and impairment
  • Altered growth of bone and joints leading to short stature

The primary goal in juvenile arthritis management is to control inflammation, help with pain relief, prevent joint damage, and maximize functional abilities. Overall treatment of children who develop juvenile arthritis varies, depending on the form of arthritis; however, the general plan includes physical activity/therapy, education, proper health care (including eye and dental care), and proper nutrition.
